The Beloved Community Global Summit is an opportunity for mission aligned individual organizations who are dedicated to creating the Beloved Community to come together and share ideas. Participants will hear from a myriad of national and international individuals who share their vision for a more just, humane, equitable and peaceful world.
DAY ONE: BELOVED COMMUNITY GLOBAL SUMMIT
12:00 pm – 12:25 pm EST- A Special Message from The King Center CEO: The Urgency of Creating the Beloved Community
The Chief Executive Officer of The King Center, Dr. Bernice A. King will provide her vision of how each of us, as members of one big “World House,” must embrace Nonviolence 365® as the pathway to the creation of the Beloved Community.
12:30 pm - 1:15 pm EST- Perspective: Creating the Beloved Community
Participants will hear from panelist who will delve deeper into the meaning of the Beloved Community by sharing their perspectives on how we become a more just, humane, sustainable and peaceful global society. Participants will receive key points on what it means to create the Beloved Community.
1:45 pm - 2:20 pm EST- Doing the Work: Organizations Creating the Beloved Community
Numerous national and international organizations are working together to create the Beloved Community. Panelists will share with participants their organizations missions and efforts related to creating the Beloved Community, as well as their thoughts on how others can begin to help create the Beloved Community. Participants will receive examples on how organizations are creating the Beloved Community.
2:25 pm - 2:35 pm EST- Social Media: An Outlet for Creating the Beloved Community
This session will focus on strategy for utilizing social media to create the Beloved Community, with attention to aligning voice and messaging on social media with personal and organizational missions. Participants will receive three steps for utilizing social media to create the Beloved Community.
3:00 pm – 3:55 pm EST- Impediments to the Creation of the Beloved Community
This session explores the “Triple Evils” of Poverty, Racism and Militarism, that hinder humanity from creating the Beloved Community and how society may begin to address these challenging forms of violence that permeate our society. Participants will leave with an understanding of how these forms of violence are interconnected and act as barriers to creating the Beloved Community. This understanding will enhance capacity to eradicate racism, poverty and militarism in various sectors of society.
4:00 pm – 4:30 pm EST- Nonviolence 365® as the Pathway to Creating the Beloved Community
Two experts on nonviolence and the Beloved Community will share why they believe nonviolence is the only pathway to the Beloved Community and sustainable social change. Participants will be given three reasons why nonviolence is the pathway to the Beloved Community.
4:30 pm - 6:00 pm EST- An Introduction to the Principles and Steps of Nonviolence
Ms. Bonita Hampton Smith and Dr. Vonnetta West will provide an overview of the six steps and principles of Nonviolence365®. Participants will be taught how to apply Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Six Principles and Six Steps of Nonviolence in their daily lives and for social justice.
