About Groove CentricGroove Centric began in 2008 in Atlanta and has since grown to a trendsetting group playing at venues all around the city and throughout the South, including The Velvet Note, The Vista Room, Venkman's, City Winery, St. James Live, Churchill Grounds Jazz Cafe, the legendary Paschal's, Sweet Georgia's Juke Joint, Good Times Jazz Restaurant, The Perfect Note, Blues Boulevard, Chayz Lounge, and The House of Blues, among many others. Collectively, the group has played with artists Mandisa, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Jennifer Holliday, Mike Phillips, Monica, Musiq Soulchild, Jimmy Heath, India.Arie, Jeff Lorber, Oliver Lake, The Mighty Blue Kings, Sonny Emory, and Al Green, to name a few. By 2009, the band was invited to headline several festivals, such as the Gwinnett Music Festival, Soca Wine and Jazz Festival, and Jonesboro Food Truck and Music Festival, and most recently, was invited to perform at the 2018, 2019, and 2020 Atlanta Jazz Festival. As adept musicians--Mike Jones on sax, Donnie "D Major" Boynton on keys, Joel Powell on bass, and Brien Andrews on drums--Groove Centric's mission is to captivate you and leave you yearning for more. Their music will take you on a journey beginning with sounds reminiscent of a classic Miles Davis tune, transitioning to the smooth sounds of Jill Scott, and leaving you grooving to head-bopping funk like that of James Brown and Earth, Wind & Fire. Their evolution has given way to music that is now a complete embodiment of jazz, neo-soul, R&B, blues, pop, and funk. The group's debut album, Crossing Bridges, is available for purchase on all digital outlets, and a new album is scheduled for release this spring. For more info, go to groovecentricmusic.com, or find them on Facebook and on Instagram and Twitter @groovecentric.
